Coined by Goodchild (2007) after the dawn of Web 2.0, Volunteer Geographic Information refers to the vision of humans as sensors that voluntarily create, assemble and disseminate (on the Web) geographic data.
Citizen science is the set of scientific activities in which amateurs voluntarily participate in data collection, analysis and dissemination of scientific projects. Citizen science activities range from active and cognitive (e.g. classifying satellite images) to passive (e.g. donating CPU time to computing projects).
